A new article has been added to the Industry News category: 'Amazon Ads and OpenAI Partner to Bring Conversational Ads to ChatGPT'. This appears to be a significant industry development involving a major partnership between Amazon Ads and OpenAI.
Generative AI is reshaping digital marketing, moving beyond content creation into conversational, agent-driven advertising that can use product catalogues, recommendations and agent-to-agent transactions. Platforms such as Google Ads and OpenAI’s ChatGPT offer AI-driven ad formats and buying options (CPM and CPC), while Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping (Rufus) demonstrates product-feed-driven shopping assistance. Startups like Gravity are reportedly working with retailers (Target, Best Buy) on agent-to-agent advertising. The shift raises practical challenges for marketers around attribution, CPC measurement, product-feed quality, brand safety, and auditability of AI agent decisions. Research (a May 2026 study and a 2026 paper titled “Auditable Agents”) highlights risks from unsupported AI claims and outlines requirements for auditability. The article argues organisations need AI governance, improved product data, and new measurement approaches to participate effectively in AI-led buying journeys.
OpenAI has added a product-carousel ad format to ChatGPT that displays multiple products in a single placement at the bottom of user conversations, built from retailers' product feeds. While carousels currently surface items from a single retailer, the system supports showing multiple retailers side-by-side. OpenAI's ad platform automatically determines whether to serve a single-product ad or a carousel. Separately, an AppsFlyer integration lets roughly 40 brands (including Grubhub) attribute app installs, in-app purchases, and subscriptions to ChatGPT ads, though it does not measure incrementality. The rollout follows automation that enables retailers to bulk-create product-feed campaigns and includes guidance ahead of Q4 holiday spending. Together these moves create basic infrastructure for performance advertising on ChatGPT, even as advertiser control, measurement depth and scale remain open; reported ad-revenue targets include $2.5 billion for 2026 and $100+ billion by 2030.
OpenAI is testing a new ad format in a beta ChatGPT Ads Manager that opens business-specific ChatGPT conversations instead of sending users to landing pages. The reported workflow includes automated site crawling to build business profiles and configurable Business Agents created with custom instructions, product feeds, Model Context Protocol tools, and lead forms. Clicks are routed into agent-powered chats that can answer questions, surface and recommend products, capture leads, and potentially handle orders or bookings within the interface. The capability appears available to a limited group of advertisers in the test. The feature was publicly spotted by Juozas Kaziukėnas and reported by MarTech on 2026-08-04; other outlets (Search Engine Land, MEEDIA) have noted similar platform-driven conversational commerce trends, including Google tests of AI-generated product descriptions.
Pattern Group has integrated ChatGPT advertising into its campaign management platform as a technology partner, enabling brand customers to run and manage ChatGPT campaigns alongside channels like Google, Meta, Snap and TikTok. The integration connects to OpenAI's Ads Manager and advertising API for budgeting, bidding (including conversion-optimized CPM/CPC), creative and product-feed support, and product-level reporting; Pattern will provide catalogue preparation, feed management and surface ChatGPT campaign controls within its cross-channel workflows. The rollout leverages Pattern's ROI Hunter acquisition and its Pattern Intelligence (Pi) ecommerce execution engine — launched May 2026, available in the ChatGPT app directory and having executed billions of automated actions — and draws on a platform handling over $2 billion in annual ad spend and more than 77 trillion e-commerce data points.
OpenAI is expanding advertising across ChatGPT, rolling out a beta self-serve Ads Manager and adding features such as cost-per-click bidding, conversion tracking and location targeting. The system matches ads to the context and intent of user conversations and accepts advertiser 'context hints' rather than keyword lists. Early pilots involved major advertisers, and OpenAI reported roughly $100 million ARR by March and optimistic long-term ad revenue forecasts. Advertisers and analysts say tooling, reporting granularity and campaign controls remain more limited than Google and Meta, and privacy protections mean advertisers do not receive underlying conversations or user personal data.
