Klaviyo
Klaviyo is a customer data and marketing automation software for ecommerce brands.
Analyst Perspective
Klaviyo, Inc. is a US-based public software company that sells a customer data and marketing automation platform to businesses, particularly ecommerce and direct-to-consumer brands. Its platform combines customer data management, campaign automation, email and SMS execution, analytics, and newer customer service capabilities so marketing and support teams can run personalised lifecycle communications from a shared customer view. The company makes money primarily through SaaS subscriptions tied to the number of active customer profiles stored on the platform, with additional usage-based charges for messaging credits such as SMS. Its customers are business users rather than consumers, including marketing teams, growth managers, analysts, support teams, and operations teams at SMB and enterprise brands.
Analyst Signal Briefing
Updated: 11 Aug 2026Klaviyo is advancing its autonomous CRM roadmap through the acquisition of AI startup Agency and the appointment of Elias Torres as Chief Product Officer to lead its "agentic" product development. The firm has expanded its omnichannel capabilities by launching Klaviyo Social Marketing and partnering with Universal Ads for television-based audience activation, further capitalising on Intuit's strategic retrenchment of competitor Mailchimp. While scaling its AI-driven "Customer Agent" tools, Klaviyo recently addressed a security misconfiguration that exposed sign-up data for a limited number of users to external advertisers.

Key insights about Klaviyo
Category Differentiation
Klaviyo is a B2B martech software vendor, not an advertising network or consumer shopping app. It is best distinguished from broader CRM suites by its ecommerce-centred mix of CDP, messaging automation, analytics and service tools.
Klaviyo: About
Klaviyo operates a B2B SaaS model centred on a unified customer data layer that powers campaign automation, messaging, reporting, and service workflows. The platform creates value by helping brands consolidate first-party customer data, activate that data across owned channels, and measure outcomes within one system rather than stitching together separate tools for CDP, ESP, automation, analytics, and service.
How Klaviyo Works & Monetises
Business model analysis and core revenue streams
Klaviyo monetises through recurring software subscriptions primarily priced by active customer profiles on the platform. It uses a freemium-to-paid land-and-expand model, with a free tier for smaller databases and higher-priced plans as profile counts grow. Additional revenue comes from variable messaging usage such as SMS or mobile credits, plus higher-tier packages for analytics, data platform, and service capabilities.

Optinify Rebuilt to Add Deeper Popup Analytics
Optinify, a Shopify popup app, has been rebuilt from the ground up to centralize popup analytics, targeting, A/B testing, and revenue attribution for growing ecommerce merchants. The new platform tracks views, conversions, and revenue per campaign, supports behavior-based triggers and audience segmentation, and includes built-in experimentation. It integrates natively with Shopify and with leading email/SMS providers such as Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, Brevo, and GoHighLevel. Optinify is available to merchants via the Shopify App Store.

The article argues that signal intelligence and sophisticated marketing orchestration deliver limited value unless the marketing-to-sales handoff is fast, accurate, and context-rich. Common failures — slow follow-up, weak lead-to-account matching, and disconnected systems — convert marketing signals into lost opportunities. Recommended fixes include automated routing, lead-to-account matching, CRM opportunity tracking, intelligent routing, AI win-probability scoring, enrichment, and multi-threaded engagement. The piece also reframes customer success as a growth engine, advocating health-score monitoring, AI-driven churn prediction (60–90 days lead time), product-led triggers for expansion, and metrics aligned to net dollar retention and ARR expansion. It warns that lagging indicators like NPS and support tickets miss early churn signals, while product usage telemetry and combined predictive scoring provide earlier warnings.

Security research by Melurna found that a misconfigured sign-up web form on Klaviyo’s site allowed new-customer sign-up information — including email addresses, passwords, company name, website and phone number — to be shared with third-party trackers and advertisers. The misconfiguration was present between at least February 2024 and November 2025, researchers told TechCrunch. Affected third parties reportedly included Facebook, Google, HubSpot, Microsoft/LinkedIn and X. Klaviyo said it fixed the issue and told TechCrunch the number of known affected individuals was fewer than 200 based on active logs; the company would not disclose how far back logs go or publicly share the customer notification. The findings were shared with TechCrunch ahead of a Def Con talk by the researchers.
