Category Differentiation

Initiative is a media agency brand within IPG Mediabrands, not a standalone adtech platform or self-serve software vendor. It should also not be confused with adjacent creative shops or individual product tools used by agencies.

Initiative: About

Initiative operates a service-led agency model. It creates value by planning media, executing campaigns, managing biddable trading, developing content and commerce strategies, and supporting analytics and operational delivery for advertiser clients. As part of a larger holding group, it combines strategic consulting with ongoing activation and optimisation across multiple channels.

How Initiative Works & Monetises

Business model analysis and core revenue streams

Monetisation is mainly service-based: retainers for ongoing agency relationships, project fees for planning and consulting work, and commission or percentage-of-spend compensation linked to media buying and campaign execution. Performance-linked compensation may also apply for biddable and ROI-oriented work. There is no evidence here of a primary SaaS licensing model.

European Ad Tech Firms Launch Programmatic TV Initiative

PubMatic, Magnite, Equativ, The Trade Desk, Cadent, and Adform announced the European Programmatic TV Initiative (EPTVI) to accelerate growth and adoption of programmatic TV across Europe. The effort, in collaboration with the Project X Initiative, brings broadcasters and agencies together to tackle barriers such as closed sales platforms that don’t connect to the broader programmatic ecosystem. Buyer demand remains for connected TV (CTV) inventory accessible via DSPs, while broadcasters worry about losing control and inventory commoditization. European CTV spend is around 10% of linear TV spend, far below the 38% seen in the U.S., illustrating market gaps. The group outlined four initial objectives: define definitions, outline benefits/ drawbacks with mitigation, showcase successful European programmatic TV campaigns, and develop a development roadmap for Europe. An industry summit and a report are planned for autumn. Hitesh Bhatt of PubMatic emphasized uniting broadcasters, streamers, OEMs and agencies to enable Europe’s TV market to thrive.
