Sensor Tower has acquired AppMagic, integrating the platform as its dedicated market intelligence solution for emerging and growing app developers. This strategic move repositions AppMagic within the broader Sensor Tower ecosystem to focus specifically on the small and medium-sized business (SMB) segment. Additionally, the company is emphasising its utility in niche identification and competitor validation through recent case studies involving advertising partners.

Category Differentiation

AppMagic is a B2B market intelligence platform for apps and games, not a consumer mobile app or a mobile ad network. It is closer to app analytics competitors such as Sensor Tower and data.ai than to app development tools or app stores.

AppMagic: About

AppMagic operates a data-centric B2B SaaS model. It aggregates and organises large-scale app-store, monetisation, and advertising intelligence data, then packages that information into a subscription platform used for market analysis, competitor tracking, and strategic decision-making. Value is created by reducing the time and effort required for customers to estimate market size, monitor rivals, assess ad creative activity, and identify growth opportunities across mobile apps and PC games.

Freecash App Rose via Deceptive Ads and Data Harvesting

Freecash, a rewards app owned by Germany-based Almedia, rose to top positions in the Apple App Store and Google Play by using viral social ads and affiliate marketing while reportedly harvesting sensitive user data. Cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes reported the app collected highly sensitive attributes (race, religion, sexual orientation, health and biometrics) and acted like a data broker to match users with mobile games. App intelligence firm Appfigures found Freecash surged from 876,000 downloads in October 2025 to 5.5 million in January 2026 and peaked at No. 2 on the U.S. App Store. After TechCrunch contacted Apple, Apple removed Freecash from the App Store citing App Store Review Guidelines against misleading marketing and bait-and-switch tactics; the app remained listed on Google Play as of publication while Google investigates. Almedia denied wrongdoing and said affiliates generated some ads.
