Sensor Tower data shows Temu fell from X’s largest advertiser (Jan–May 2025) to the 51st largest in the same period of 2026, a roughly 95% year‑over‑year decline on X and eight‑figure reduction in spend. Between January and May 2026 Temu cut spending on YouTube and TikTok by 74% each, Snapchat by 46% and Instagram by 10%, while increasing Pinterest spend by 66%. Sensor Tower and Apptopia data indicate Temu’s U.S. downloads remained steady and monthly active users rose 21% year‑over‑year, suggesting the company shifted to more efficient, retention-focused advertising.

OpenAI’s Ad Business Still a Work in Progress

Digiday reports that OpenAI is preparing for a possible public debut as soon as September with a valuation near $1 trillion, even as its nascent ChatGPT advertising business faces early challenges. Fifteen weeks after launching a ChatGPT ads pilot (which began Feb. 9), the platform is balancing scale, safety, automation and advertiser expectations. Data cited include Similarweb’s research on brand visibility in AI search, Pulsar sentiment analysis showing a swing from -17.9% at launch to +49.3% by mid‑April, and Apptopia metrics showing daily time spent per user fell 18.3% between March 2 and May 11. Forecasts remain aggressive: OpenAI and market analysts project billions in ad revenue by 2026–2030, but execution limits, inventory constraints and slowing engagement create persistent risks for monetization.
