Starbucks has become the first brand to pilot TikTok's new Custom Creator Networks, formalizing employee-generated content (EGC) into a paid media channel. Select baristas will receive creative briefs via TikTok's Content Suite and earn a share of ad revenue from their branded posts. This builds on Starbucks' Green Apron Creators initiative, which began in 2024 and showed that employees post at three times the rate of similar retail chains. The move shifts employee advocacy from recognition-based to platform-verified revenue sharing, distinguishing Starbucks from earlier programs by Dell, Adobe, EA, Vodafone, and Salesforce. Research cited from Sprout Social indicates 61% of Gen Z consumers discover products through employee-generated content. Starbucks reported $9.5 billion in Q2 fiscal 2026 revenue, a 9% year-over-year increase, with its rewards program reaching 35.6 million members.
