Meta, Walmart, Sierra launch personal agent protocol
Meta, Walmart, Stripe and other companies, led by Sierra chairman Bret Taylor, have formed a coalition to publish an open 'personal agent protocol' standard. The goal is to simplify how AI agents, like Meta's Muse, interact with businesses, providing authentication and visibility. The standard aims to reduce chaos and security risks associated with agents accessing services, similar to using social logins. Amazon has already blocked Meta's agents over scraping concerns, highlighting the need for such standards. While OpenAI and Anthropic are not yet on board, Taylor expects them to join. The protocol is intended to be open and widely adopted.
