Telecommunications Market: Telekom scraps landline for 1.3 million customers, switches to mobile

Telekom is transitioning its remaining 1.3 million traditional telephone-only landline customers to a new mobile-based service called 'Call Connect via Funk'. Affected customers can either switch to this new tariff or keep their landline by paying significantly more. The new tariffs require a box with a SIM card, costing either a monthly fee or a one-time payment. Standard tariffs start at 22.95 euros per month for 120 minutes, while a flat-rate option costs 32.45 euros per month. Verivox reports that customers can save over 200 euros per year by switching to alternative providers offering all-net flat rates for about five euros per month. This move is part of Telekom's broader strategy to phase out legacy fixed-line infrastructure.
