justDice

justDice is a rewarded mobile gaming publisher monetising player acquisition for developers.

Analyst Perspective

justDice GmbH is a Hamburg-based mobile gaming publisher and app operator focused on rewarded gaming applications. It builds and runs consumer-facing apps that let users discover and play third-party mobile games, track gameplay activity, and redeem points for cash, gift cards, or vouchers. The company sits between mobile gamers and third-party game developers, combining app publishing, audience aggregation, and incentivised engagement mechanics. The company generates revenue by delivering engaged players to external game developers and taking a fee for that user acquisition and engagement activity, while sharing part of that fee with end users as rewards. Its direct customers are game developers and mobile advertisers seeking scalable, performance-oriented player acquisition and retention outcomes. Its end users are consumers, but its commercial model is B2B monetisation wrapped in a B2C app experience.

Category Differentiation

justDice is not a game development engine, ad network, or standalone mobile game studio. It is a rewarded gaming app publisher that acquires and routes users into third-party games.

justDice: About

justDice operates a two-sided rewarded gaming model. On the demand side, it partners with third-party game developers that pay for user acquisition and downstream player engagement. On the supply side, it operates a portfolio of proprietary mobile apps that attract consumers with free-to-play experiences and real-world rewards. Value is created by aggregating large volumes of mobile gaming users, directing them into partner titles, measuring gameplay actions, and converting those actions into performance-based revenue from developers.

How justDice Works & Monetises

Business model analysis and core revenue streams

justDice monetises primarily through performance-based fees paid by third-party game developers for delivering engaged players into partner games. Commercially, this functions like an affiliate-style user acquisition model tied to installs, gameplay time, milestones, and other in-app actions. Secondary monetisation comes from in-app advertising and in-app purchases within its app portfolio. A share of developer-funded revenue is passed through to users as cash or voucher rewards to maintain engagement and retention.

Applike: Das halbe Gaming-App-Unicorn von Bertelsmann aus Hamburg, das kaum jemand kennt

The OMR Podcast episode with Applike founder Jonas Thiemann profiles the Applike Group — a Hamburg‑founded mobile app and games ecosystem that now comprises four companies (Justdice, Adjoe, Sunday, Justtrack). Thiemann describes the group's growth to about 140 employees, revenue in the low triple‑digit millions of euros, double‑digit profitability, and a reported valuation of €500 million after Bertelsmann invested €100 million to fund global expansion. The group aims to scale revenue to €200 million within the year. Business lines include a loyalty/discovery app (Justdice), an in‑app adtech solution (Adjoe), an in‑house hyper‑casual games studio (Sunday) whose title Cat Escape has reached over 100 million users, and a newer mobile user‑acquisition platform (Justtrack). The company generates most revenue from gaming, with a large share coming from the U.S.

INCRMNTAL Aims To Help Wean Apps Away From Last Touch And The IDFA

INCRMNTAL, a Tel Aviv-based startup focused on incrementality testing and measurement, launched with $1.4 million in pre-seed funding on October 5, 2020. The round includes angels, toDay Ventures, and the Mobile Dev Memo Investment Syndicate. The company aims to reduce reliance on last-touch attribution in mobile installs as IDFA deprecation accelerates, offering a self-service platform that analyzes conversions, costs and revenue rather than impressions or clicks. Founders Maor Sadra (CEO) and Moti Tal (CTO) say the product will not depend on device IDs and will integrate with Adjust, AppsFlyer, Kochava, Singular and Apple’s SKAdNetwork, ingesting data via API or streaming from mobile measurement platforms without an SDK. A beta is targeted for Q1 2021, aligned with Apple’s revised iOS 14 timeline. Six design customers–including Jam City, JustDice, Traplight Games, Teatime Games and eToro–are providing feedback. The team includes two engineers, one data scientist and one product/business intelligence person.
