Meta Leaves RE100 Amid Natural Gas Buildout
Meta confirmed it has left RE100, a corporate renewable-energy initiative run by the Climate Group, after roughly a decade of membership. The exit coincides with Meta funding at least a dozen natural gas power plants over the past year — including 10 plants for its Hyperion project that together will generate about 7.5 gigawatts. RE100 recently tightened reporting guidance for members, and Meta says it still intends to match its data-center electricity use with 100% clean and renewable energy, typically via energy attribute certificates. Competitors including Apple, Google and Microsoft remain RE100 members.
