Amazon Triples Nvidia GPU Order Amid Surging AI Demand
Amazon and Nvidia expanded their partnership with a deal for Amazon to add 2 million Nvidia GPUs to Amazon Web Services data centers, scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028. The GPUs include Nvidia Blackwell Ultra, Rubin, and Rubin Ultra models; Nvidia also plans to supply Vera CPUs integrated in some configurations. The announcement was made during Nvidia’s quarterly earnings call, where the company reported $96.2 billion in Q2 sales and $89 billion in data center revenue. The companies cited “surging demand” from startups, enterprises, AI labs, and governments. The partnership also extends Nvidia’s full physical AI stack into Amazon’s robotics and enterprise offerings and will see Nvidia models (Nemotron) served on AWS-managed services.
OpenAI and AWS Forge $38 Billion AI Partnership
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenAI announced a multi-year strategic partnership under which OpenAI will run and scale its core AI workloads on AWS infrastructure. The agreement represents a $38 billion commitment over the next seven years with growth potential, giving OpenAI immediate access to hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs (GB200s and GB300s) via Amazon EC2 UltraServers and the ability to scale to tens of millions of CPUs. AWS aims to deploy the targeted capacity before the end of 2026 with the option to expand into 2027 and beyond. The infrastructure is designed for low-latency clustered GPU performance to support both inference (e.g., ChatGPT) and training of next-generation models. The announcement references prior collaboration through availability of OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock.
IBM and NVIDIA Supercharge AI for Enterprises Together
IBM announced at GTC 2026 an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA to help enterprises operationalize AI at scale. The partnership covers GPU-native data analytics, intelligent document processing, on-premises and regulated infrastructure deployments, cloud offerings, and consulting to move AI from pilot to production. Technical integrations include accelerating IBM watsonx.data’s Presto SQL engine with NVIDIA cuDF, a Docling and NVIDIA Nemotron combination for document ingestion, IBM Storage Scale System 6000 certification on NVIDIA DGX, and planned availability of NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs on IBM Cloud in early Q2 2026. A production proof-of-concept with Nestlé reportedly reduced a global data mart refresh from 15 minutes to 3 minutes with 83% cost savings and a 30x price-performance improvement. IBM will also integrate capabilities across Red Hat AI Factory and IBM Consulting Advantage.
