AI Training / Copyright Market: Amazon and Twitch Sued Over AI Training with User Videos

Amazon and its streaming subsidiary Twitch are facing a U.S. class-action lawsuit filed by streamer Warren Pandiscia in the Northern District of California. The complaint alleges that Amazon used millions of Twitch videos as training material for generative AI models without obtaining licenses or compensating creators. The lawsuit follows a mid-August policy change that makes AI training on platform content the default, covering live streams, VODs, clips, chat messages and channel images. Creators can only opt out for their own channel, and Twitch product chief Mike Minton drew backlash for saying opt-in would lead to no participation. Pandiscia also argues that material from before the policy change was used. The suit seeks damages, restitution, disgorgement of profits and removal of content from training datasets. Amazon and Twitch have not publicly commented.
