Germany names EUDI wallet 'd-you', launches 2027 with retail partners
Germany's federal government has officially named its state-issued EUDI wallet 'd-you', with a launch set for January 2, 2027. Announced by Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger, the wallet will be free and voluntary, allowing citizens to securely store and share digital proofs such as age verification, contracts, and banking credentials. Data will be stored locally to ensure user control. The retail, banking, insurance, and telecom sectors have expressed support, expecting streamlined customer verification and new digital services. Approximately 40 launch partners, including Deutsche Post, Vodafone, Rossmann, and the Federal Employment Agency, will integrate their applications. This initiative aims to establish a standardized digital identity infrastructure based on European standards, with gradual expansion for cross-border use.
