Microsoft Extends Windows 10 Security Updates to 2027
Microsoft has extended its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 by one year: the ESU availability for consumers now runs until 12 October 2027, rather than October 2026. The company updated a Windows blog post to reflect the change and noted the extension applies explicitly to private customers. In the European Union, security updates under ESU have been provided free of charge (users must link their PC to a Microsoft account). Devices already enrolled in ESU will continue to receive updates automatically, and others can still sign up after the announcement. Market-share data from May 2026 shows Windows 10 at 26.2% and Windows 11 at 71.8% of registered Windows desktops.
