China Robot Games: New Autonomy Rules and Standards
At the 2026 Beijing Humanoid Robot Games, organizers introduced an "Autonomy Weight Coefficient" across a 51-event program to reward fully autonomous runs over remote-controlled ones. The Tiangong robot (built by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center / X-Humanoid) set new sprint and jump records, highlighting hardware and control advances. Separately, on August 25 the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) opened public comment on a draft national humanoid robot industry standards system aiming for at least 100 key standards by 2028, covering capability testing, safety, and reliability/repairability benchmarks. The Games (hosted by Beijing Municipal People’s Government and China Media Group) function as an informal nationwide benchmark while the MIIT draft forms the formal standards counterpart, with implications for industrial testing, commercial adoption, and international standard-setting.
- •The Tiangong robot, built by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center (X-Humanoid), ran 100 meters in 9.39 seconds and later 8.86 seconds in a subsequent round.
- •The Games schedule lists 51 events and introduced an "Autonomy Weight Coefficient" that generally scores fully autonomous runs higher than remote-controlled runs.
