Google Wallet adds supervised balances for kids
Google announced that Google Wallet now lets parents set up a secure, supervised balance for children under 18 in the United States. The feature lets parents set daily spending limits, review transaction history, receive purchase notifications, lock or unlock accounts if a device is lost, and apply a temporary "spending timeout" to pause spending. Kids can tap-to-pay using Android or Wear OS devices where Google Pay is accepted, without needing a bank account. The update aligns Google Wallet with tools like Apple Cash Family and competes with startups such as FamZoo and Greenlight. The rollout is currently U.S.-only and builds on Google’s 2025 supervised digital payments update for children in select countries.
