OpenAI and WAN-IFRA Launch AI Training for Ukrainian Publishers

OpenAI, WAN-IFRA, and the Association of Independent Regional Press Publishers of Ukraine (AIRPPU) have jointly announced a new initiative to support independent journalism in Ukraine by building practical AI capabilities. The program includes a Newsroom AI Masterclass Series and a Newsroom AI Catalyst, providing hands-on support to ten Ukrainian news organizations. Participants will receive API credits from OpenAI to develop bespoke newsroom solutions. The initiative aims to enhance the sustainability, efficiency, and resilience of independent journalism amidst ongoing conflict. The Masterclass Series began on August 5, 2026, and the Catalyst launches on September 17, 2026.
