AppLovin Sued Over Adult Ads in Kids' Games
San Diego County has filed a lawsuit against mobile adtech company AppLovin, accusing it of serving children advertisements for dating services, alcohol, vaping, and sexual content within games played on devices with parental controls enabled. The complaint, filed at San Diego Superior Court, alleges AppLovin bypassed Apple and Google's tracking limits to target kids without parental consent, collecting sensitive information such as location and school details. Screenshots show ads for a sexualized AI chatbot and cannabis gummies on devices configured for young children. The county claims AppLovin disregarded child safety tools to harvest data for its AI advertising system. This is one of three lawsuits filed by the county's new Consumer Fairness and Public Protection Unit, which also targets Roblox. AppLovin's policies prohibit collecting data from children, and the company has not yet responded to requests for comment.
