Wemf Data: Blick Becomes Top-Selling Newspaper
The new Wemf circulation data, discussed in the persoenlich.com podcast, reveals that the printed Blick newspaper gained approximately 17 percent in readership, making it the most-read daily newspaper in German-speaking Switzerland. Publishers Matthias Ackeret and Christian Beck attribute this success to a long-term trend and the leadership of editor-in-chief Rolf Cavalli. In contrast, nine magazines, including Coopzeitung and Migros-Magazin, experienced significant readership declines. The podcast also covers job cuts at Ringier in Lausanne, where 14 positions are being eliminated. The discussion highlights the challenges facing print media in Switzerland, with magazines struggling against digital competition and changing consumer habits.
CH Media Launch Sparks Surge on 'Schweiz heute'
CH Media launched a new national news portal, «Schweiz heute», which triggered a large spike in traffic and temporarily disrupted access to E-Papers on Friday morning. The surge was driven by the introduction of an Abo+-Freipass that gives subscribers access to 17 additional daily newspapers. CH Media told persoenlich.com it saw roughly 80% more accesses across its platforms since the portal's start, informed subscribers by email, and worked with a technology partner to restore service; by Friday afternoon the E-Papers were running stably. The launch was covered by SRF the same evening and picked up by radio news the following morning.
CH Media Merges Rundschau Nord and Süd Into One Newspaper
CH Media, a Swiss media company, has integrated the editorial teams of General-Anzeiger, Rundschau, and Limmatwelle following its acquisition of three Aargau free papers from Effingermedien AG. The first jointly produced issue was published on September 3, featuring the newly merged Rundschau Nord/Süd. The integration also involved adapting Limmatwelle to a newspaper format. Editor-in-chief Melanie Bär described the process as both exciting and demanding, with staff investing significant hours to transfer titles to the IT system, adjust layouts, and train employees. The new team includes Melanie Bär, Irene Hung-König, Marko Lehtinen, Sven Martens, Simon Meyer, Martina Pfiffner, and Manuela Page.
