Deezer launches Remix Lab to let fans remix songs
Deezer announced Remix Lab, a new in-app feature that lets fans create remixes of select songs with the consent of original artists and rights holders. Deezer says artists are paid for every stream of remixed tracks. The tool provides non-AI controls (tempo, reverb, genre/style changes) available on select artists’ pages and is initially rolling out in France. Deezer positions the feature as aligned with its stance against AI-generated music — the company already uses tools to detect and remove AI tracks from recommendations and editorial playlists. Selected French artists available for remixing include Céline Dion, Alain Souchon, Alonzo, Ronisia, Mosimann, Tiakola, and Zaho. Deezer will also run Remix Lab contests via Deezer Club, with winners featured on a playlist and receiving event tickets and merchandise.
Winamp partners with Deezer for new music player
Winamp announced a strategic partnership with Deezer to power its upcoming premium music subscription service using Deezer’s white-label technology and global licensed music catalog, while Winamp retains its branding and user experience. The collaboration is part of a broader relaunch centered on a next-generation Winamp Player planned for the first half of 2027, which will combine premium streaming with local libraries, internet radio, podcasts, cloud collections and other audio sources. Winamp says its free desktop player is actively used by more than 40 million users. Details on pricing and other product features remain limited.
Deezer launches cross-platform AI music detector
Deezer has published a free cross-platform tool that scans user accounts and playlists for AI-generated music. The company says 43% of users who switch from other services to Deezer have AI tracks in their playlists, often unknowingly. Deezer reports being flooded with roughly 75,000 AI-generated tracks per day (over two million per month) and estimates about 44% of new releases are AI-generated. The detector is compatible with 20 apps (including Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud and YouTube Music), supports 27 languages, and lets users share analysis results; it does not, however, mark which individual songs are AI-generated. Deezer has previously filed patents for detection technology and actively removes or demonetizes suspected AI tracks from recommendations and editorial playlists.
