Amazon Launches Alexa+ in India with Hindi Support
Amazon has launched its AI-powered Alexa+ assistant in India in early access, with support for Hindi and English. The assistant can handle complex multi-step tasks, such as ordering groceries via Amazon Now and controlling smart home devices, and allows mid-sentence language switching. Alexa+ is integrated with local services including Swiggy, Zomato's District, TripAdvisor, MakeMyTrip, and EazyDiner, as well as music platforms Amazon Music and JioSaavn. After the early access phase, Alexa+ will be free for Prime members, while non-Prime users will pay a subscription fee. This move targets India's large Hindi-speaking population and aims to strengthen Amazon's presence in the smart home and AI assistant market.
AI Boosts Big Tech Ad Share; China Leads in AI Adoption
A new report from Madison & Wall shows Google, Meta, and Amazon now control 56% of US advertising revenue, up from 53% a year ago, with each gaining share. The growth is attributed to AI-driven ad products. Separately, Morgan Stanley research reveals that China has surpassed the US in consumer AI adoption, with 80% of Chinese respondents using AI weekly vs. 54% in the US, driven by AI integration into existing apps. Additionally, Amazon's quick-commerce service, Amazon Now, has crossed $1 billion in annualized gross sales in India, doubling orders each quarter and expanding to 60 cities.
Flipkart Minutes Narrows Gap with India Quick-Commerce Leaders
Flipkart Minutes, Walmart-owned Flipkart’s quick-commerce service launched in August 2024, has grown to handle about 1.1–1.2 million daily orders, closing in on rivals such as Swiggy’s Instamart. The service has rapidly scaled its delivery infrastructure — operating roughly 1,020–1,050 micro-fulfillment centers (up from ~340 a year ago) and adding about 100 per month — while average delivery times have fallen to ~11 minutes. Flipkart reports high repeat usage and rising transactions per customer; Amazon and other competitors are also expanding instant-delivery offerings in India. Market research and corporate data show Blinkit and Zepto remain larger by daily order volume, but Flipkart’s expansion and access to a large e-commerce customer base make it a significant new entrant in quick commerce.
