AppsFlyer Adds AI Referral and ChatGPT Ads Attribution
AppsFlyer has expanded its attribution capabilities to include AI-driven discovery, now supporting organic referrals from eight AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, and Manus) alongside 13 traditional search engines. This extension allows advertisers to attribute app opens and new installs to prior research in AI assistants, with sources labeled 'chatgpt_organic_aeo'. However, prompt or keyword data and brand mentions within AI answers are not captured. Building on its August integration of ChatGPT Ads via OpenAI's Conversions API, AppsFlyer now enables comparison of organic and paid AI traffic in the same environment. The new organic AEO attribution is included in existing packages without additional fees or conversion limits. Reporting separates SEO and AEO performance, and the move aligns with AppsFlyer's strategy to expand beyond mobile into web and AI channel measurement.
AdTech Faces Stricter AI Regulations Amid Industry Innovations
Governments tighten AI governance while adtech players intensify AI-driven initiatives. The industry unveils the AdCP standard for agentic AI; California passes SB 243 mandating safety protocols for AI companion chatbots. Major platforms including Meta, OpenAI, Character AI, and Replika face enhanced regulatory scrutiny. WPP signs a USD 400 million, five-year strategic partnership with Google to embed Gemini and Veo into its platforms, and Google pursues EU search concessions to avert Digital Markets Act penalties amid broader regulatory pressure. The European Commission demands safeguards details under the Digital Services Act from Snapchat, YouTube, Apple App Store, and Google Play. TikTok reduces 439 content moderation roles in London, CMA designates Google with strategic market status in search and search advertising, Reddit hires Sharb Farjami to lead agency partnerships, and Walmart teams with OpenAI for AI-first retail.
AppsFlyer Enables In-App Measurement for ChatGPT Ads
AppsFlyer has integrated with ChatGPT Ads (OpenAI) to enable in-app measurement for advertisers, giving visibility into installs, in-app purchases and subscriptions directly within the AppsFlyer platform. More than 40 brands across ecommerce, food delivery and ride-sharing — including GrubHub — have been testing the integration for the past four weeks. GrubHub has participated in the ChatGPT ads pilot since February but previously lacked full visibility on conversions and attribution, according to Brian Ryu, VP of growth, paid media. The companies shared the integration news with Adweek, positioning it as a way to bring Mobile Measurement Partner (MMP)-style attribution and analytics to ChatGPT ad campaigns.
