WordPress 7.0 Delayed; Collaboration and AI Features
WordPress 7.0 was delayed after the core team paused the launch to fix data storage issues behind its new real-time collaboration feature, with a revised schedule expected by April 22. The collaboration feature uses HTTP polling, works only in the block editor, and does not sync classic meta boxes. The author praises practical editor improvements—visual revision tracking, ContentOnly pattern editing, pseudo-element support in theme.json, navigation overlays, and PHP-only block registration—while expressing concern that foundational CMS needs (structured content fields, multilingual support) remain plugin-dependent and may be deprioritized in favor of AI work. The piece also notes Cloudflare's EmDash as a noisy competitor and defends WordPress's ecosystem advantages.
