Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile Form Satellite Service Joint Venture

On May 14, 2026, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon announced an agreement in principle to form a joint venture to standardize and expand satellite-based direct-to-device mobile service across the United States. The carriers plan to pool spectrum assets and jointly invest in satellite capabilities to close persistent coverage gaps in rural, remote, and disaster-affected areas. The initiative is intended to supplement — not replace — existing terrestrial networks and individual satellite agreements, create a common technical framework for satellite providers and device makers, and speed deployment. Financial and operational terms were not disclosed; the deal remains subject to final negotiations and regulatory approvals.

T‑Mobile Launches SuperBroadband with Starlink Backup

T‑Mobile promises 99.99% uptime where both 5G and Starlink are available, claims coverage to every U.S. ZIP code, and targets industries requiring high availability such as retail, hospitality, healthcare and energy. EchoStar Completes Spectrum Sale to AT&T

EchoStar, the parent company of DISH, has closed its sale of wireless spectrum licenses to AT&T. The transaction, first announced in August 2025 and approved by the FCC in May 2026, is valued at roughly $23 billion and transfers nationwide spectrum including about 30 MHz of 3.45 GHz mid-band and about 20 MHz of 600 MHz low-band to AT&T. EchoStar framed the deal as part of efforts to resolve FCC inquiries about its 5G rollout; chairman Charlie Ergen highlighted EchoStar’s Open RAN deployment and milestone compliance. AT&T said it will use the spectrum to boost 5G capacity, download speeds, and to support an "AI-ready" connected experience. AT&T also referenced the transaction in its Q2 earnings commentary and reiterated financial outlook and capital return plans through 2028.
