Google Announces Pixel Watch 5 with Gemini and Health Tools
Google unveiled the Pixel Watch 5 at its Made by Google event on August 12, 2026. The smartwatch starts at $399, runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, and adds a deeper Gemini conversational experience including offline voice features. It launches with a new Health Guardian suite that can track blood pressure patterns, estimate insulin resistance from multiple signals, detect persistent drops in oxygen saturation and surface proactive health and safety alerts. Google says Health Guardian models were trained on over one billion minutes of data from more than 500,000 people and validated against 24-hour blood pressure monitors. The Pixel Watch 5 offers up to 40 hours of battery life, improved GPS route accuracy, enhanced sleep tracking, and will be available August 20 with preorder already open.

Android 17 launches with expanded Gemini features
Google released the final version of Android 17 and Wear OS 7, debuting first on Pixel devices alongside a June Pixel Drop that brings new on-device AI integrations and multitasking tools. The update adds support for new AI models (Lyria 3, Gemini Omni, AudioLM) for in-app music generation, multimodal editing and speech-to-speech translation, plus Quick Share compatibility with Apple AirDrop on older Pixel 8a and 9a phones. Android 17 introduces a “bubble bar” UI for faster multi-app workflows, selfie+screen reaction recording, foldable gaming layouts and enhanced parental controls. The Pixel Watch gains emergency-detection and mirrored live updates from phone apps. Wear OS will receive additional Gemini-powered features this summer, including personalized widgets and a “Personal Intelligence” capability that connects Google app data and chat history with Gemini.
