Microsoft says Copilot super-app will arrive Q3
Microsoft is developing a Copilot "super-app" that will unify consumer and enterprise Copilot experiences, CEO Satya Nadella said in a quarterly report. Nadella stated the app will consolidate multiple Copilot experiences — including chat, coding (GitHub Copilot), Cowork and new "Autopilots" like Scout — and is expected to arrive this year, with a likely release in the third quarter. The article also notes that OpenAI and Anthropic are pursuing similar centralised app experiences for their AI services.
Microsoft unveils unified Copilot app to challenge Anthropic
Microsoft is updating its Copilot app for corporate workers, combining coding capabilities with agent-building tools in a single application. The move aims to challenge Anthropic's Claude and attract more Office 365 customers to pay for advanced AI features. The new app includes Home, Code, and Autopilot tabs, with usage-based pricing for the Code and Autopilot parts. Less than 7% of the 450 million commercial Office 365 seats currently have AI licenses, indicating slow adoption. The updated app allows users to select from various AI models, including OpenAI's and Anthropic's, as well as Microsoft's own cost-efficient offering. The company faces competition from Meta's Muse app and other AI agent tools. Microsoft's stock has underperformed most megacap peers this year.
Microsoft Executive Says Copilot Sales Are Gaining Traction
Microsoft executive Judson Althoff told employees the company has increased sales momentum for its Copilot AI add-on after criticism of low adoption. Microsoft disclosed in January it had 15 million seats of the $30/month Microsoft 365 Copilot — about 3% of seats in standard bundles — while offering a limited-feature Copilot Chat to corporate users. The company has been investing heavily in data centers to support cloud customers such as OpenAI. Althoff said he and CFO Amy Hood set bold targets for the March quarter that were met and that Microsoft has set ambitious goals for the June quarter. The remarks come as Microsoft stock fell about 23% in Q1 amid investor concern about generative AI competition and the revenue/profit impact of AI investments.
