Telekom Favored to Win World Cup 2030 Rights

On July 19, 2026 Deutsche Telekom confirmed it has acquired the broadcast rights to all 104 matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup and intends to show them on its paid service MagentaTV, a deal confirmed by Telekom Deutschland CEO Rodrigo Diehl. The tournament will be staged across six countries. German law (Media State Treaty) requires free-to-air transmission for Germany’s matches, the opening match, both semifinals and the final; those arrangements remain unresolved. Telekom says it will hold talks about sublicensing or partnerships to meet free-to-air obligations, with potential counterparts including the DFB, public broadcasters ARD/ZDF, commercial groups RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 and agencies such as CAA, Relevent Sports and Sela. The acquisition builds on Telekom’s record-audience 2026 World Cup coverage and its existing UEFA and women’s tournament rights.
