Biotech Market: Hoxton Ventures Backs Human Hair Toothpaste Pioneer in $4M Seed Round

Hoxton Ventures is co-leading a $4 million seed round in Eterna Regeneratives, a UK-based biotech startup focused on dental and bone repair. The company, founded in 2024 as a spinout from King's College London, is developing a platform that utilizes keratin, a protein derived from human hair or sheep's wool, to create a toothpaste or gel that repairs damaged tooth enamel. Eterna claims that keratin, when combined with saliva minerals, generates a protective coating on teeth that mimics natural enamel and could be more effective than fluoride in preventing tooth decay. The Venture Collective is the other co-lead in the round. The company aims to address tooth decay, which affects nearly 90% of adults and 46% of children. Hussein Kanji, co-founder of Hoxton Ventures, expressed enthusiasm about the breakthrough. The funding will help commercialize the technology, which currently targets enamel and bone repair.
