Seth Matlins Launches 'Create or Destroy' Podcast with Vox Media
Vox Media has debuted Create or Destroy: Reimagining Marketing, a new weekly podcast hosted by marketing veteran Seth Matlins and produced in partnership with Matlins’ new venture, The Wisdomous Company. The series will feature conversations with CMOs, CEOs, founders and cultural figures — named guests include Gary Vaynerchuk, LVMH brand advisor Mathilde Delhoume and political strategist David Axelrod — and will be distributed across audio platforms and YouTube. Vox supplies production, marketing and promotion support. The partnership also includes a global event series under Create or Destroy Sessions, beginning with a CMO summit in London in September and a U.S. retreat in Napa in October; Canva is a launch partner. Vox Media is concurrently facing competing bids for its podcast network, including an offer from James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems reportedly at $300 million or more.
Versant Reportedly Pursuing Vox Podcast Division
The New York Times reports that Versant, described as the parent company of MS NOW and CNBC, is among suitors exploring acquisition of Vox’s podcast division. Talks are said to be in early stages. Vox’s podcast network comprises nearly 40 shows; a purchase would expand Versant’s portfolio in audio and its political/news and sports/genre verticals. The ticker also summarizes media personnel and programming moves: MS NOW and C-SPAN plan coverage of nationwide No Kings protests; Rahel Solomon left CNN Early Start; Scott MacFarlane joined MeidasTouch as chief Washington correspondent and anchor; Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski extended contracts with MS NOW; CNBC reorganized reporter beats under editor in chief David Cho; Matt Brittin was named BBC director general; Alisyn Camerota debuts a new Scripps News series; and Geoff Bennett published a book titled "Black Out Loud."
Global Launches Global Studios for Video Podcasts
Global, the UK-based media company, announced Global Studios, a new production arm to create original video-first podcast content. It also acquired The Fellas Studios, a UK creator network founded by Callum Airey and Joshua Larkin, which distributes video podcasts across YouTube, Spotify and other platforms. Global’s existing podcasts, including The News Agents and My Therapist Ghosted Me, will sit within Global Studios, alongside The Fellas Studios’ shows The Fellas and Saving Grace. Global says the moves will fuel podcast growth and accelerate a video-first shift, leveraging IP and talent from its radio brands Capital Breakfast and LBC, its podcast hosting/distribution platform Captivate (bought in 2021), and its owned ad exchange DAX for monetisation. The deal exemplifies a wider industry trend of publishers partnering with creators to broaden audiences and formats. Simon Pitts, Global Group CEO, described Global Studios as a launchpad for creators and brands to scale.
