M&A Market: Silver Lake Merges Cegid and Silae in $11.6B AI Bet

Private equity firm Silver Lake announced plans to merge two of its portfolio companies, French software firms Cegid and Silae, in a deal valued at over 10 billion euros ($11.6 billion). The combined entity aims to integrate payroll, accounting, e-invoicing, digital finance, and payments data, while building a 1,400-person developer team to accelerate AI investment. The merger is expected to generate annual revenue of 1.6 billion euros. Silver Lake, the majority shareholder of both companies, will retain majority control of the new entity, with managing partner Christian Lucas set to serve as chairman. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval. The move is part of Silver Lake's strategy to create a pan-European software champion, leveraging the companies' strong presence in France, Iberia, and Germany, and addressing AI-driven disruption in the software sector.
