ARD/ZDF Study Shows Younger Germans Prefer AI Tools
The latest ARD/ZDF media study reveals a significant generational divide in AI tool usage in Germany. While over two-thirds of 14-29-year-olds use AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Perplexity at least weekly, only 8% of those over 70 do so. Overall, 37% of respondents regularly use such tools, up from 22% a year ago. However, 54% of respondents are critical of AI tools, questioning their trustworthiness. The study also shows that linear TV remains widely watched (71% weekly), while YouTube is the most-used streaming platform, reaching 71% of Germans. Radio is the leading audio channel (76% weekly). The research, conducted by G.I.M. on behalf of ARD and ZDF, surveyed about 2,500 German speakers aged 14 and above.

The 2026 Blauer Panther awards recognized two German TV productions. 'In höchster Not - Bergretter im Einsatz' (Highest Emergency - Mountain Rescuers in Action), an ARD series produced by Timeline Productions, won for Best Factual Entertainment Format. The jury praised its innovative use of bodycams and 360-degree cameras, delivering a modern, immersive look at mountain rescue operations. Nathan Goldblat received the award for Best Investigative Achievement for his documentary series 'How to kill a puppy and get rich - Die Hunde-Mafia' (The Dog Mafia), which exposes the cruel trade exploiting stray dogs.
