Hamburger Energiewerke GmbH is the municipally owned energy utility for Hamburg. It supplies electricity, gas and district heating, and also sells adjacent energy-transition services including rooftop solar and public e-mobility charging. The current company was created through the merger of Hamburg Energie and Wärme Hamburg, consolidating the city’s retail energy, heating and mobility activities into a single operating platform. The business generates revenue from consumption-based utility billing, tariff-based energy supply contracts, district-heating delivery, EV charging usage and related service contracts. Its paying customers are households, homeowners, EV drivers and small commercial customers in Hamburg and the surrounding market. Its digital products, including the customer portal, EV charging app and solar calculator, support service delivery, account management, retention and lead generation rather than functioning as standalone software revenue lines.
