D-ID

D-ID is a aI platform for avatar videos, visual agents and video APIs.

Analyst Perspective

D-ID is a private software company that builds AI-driven avatar video, visual agent and developer API products. Its core offer is a proprietary platform for generating talking-avatar videos from text, audio or images, alongside conversational avatar agents and programmatic video generation APIs. The company sells to marketing teams, enterprises, developers, customer experience teams and agencies, with some lighter self-serve usage aimed at creators. The company generates revenue through recurring software subscriptions, enterprise contracts and usage-based API pricing. Its value proposition is reducing the cost and time of producing personalised, multilingual video and interactive avatar experiences without traditional filming workflows. The 2025 acquisition of simpleshow indicates a broader push into enterprise video creation and digital human workflows rather than a narrow single-product avatar tool.

Category Differentiation

D-ID is not a foundational AI model provider or a pure adtech buying platform. It is an application-layer software company focused on avatar video generation, conversational visual agents and related enterprise APIs.

D-ID: About

D-ID operates a B2B software model built around generative video creation and interactive avatar technology. It provides self-serve SaaS tools for marketers and creators, enterprise software for governed video production and customer-facing visual agents, and API access for developers embedding avatar video capabilities into third-party applications. Value is created by replacing manual video production with scalable automated generation, localisation and personalisation workflows.

How D-ID Works & Monetises

Business model analysis and core revenue streams

D-ID uses a hybrid monetisation model combining recurring SaaS subscriptions with usage-based API billing. Studio and campaign products are sold on tiered plans with monthly or annual billing, credit allocations and higher-priced enterprise packages. The API is monetised through credit or usage consumption tied to video generation volumes and real-time workflows. Enterprise deals likely add custom pricing, governance, security and volume commitments.

Google Vids Adds Personal AI Avatars

Google announced an update to Google Vids (part of Google Workspace) that lets users create custom digital avatars that look and sound like them from a selfie and voice recording. The update brings Google’s multimodal AI model Gemini Omni into Vids, enabling video generation from written prompts plus reference images, background swapping, lighting fixes and step-by-step edits. Google says personal avatars will be tied to the account holder’s likeness and Google account and will be invisibly watermarked with SynthID. Access to personal avatars will be limited to certain regions and to users aged 18 or older. The changes shift Vids from an AI-assisted presentation tool toward a broader video-creation platform that competes with AI video startups.

Google adds prompt-directed avatars to Vids

Google updated its Vids video editor with features that let users direct and customize avatars via natural-language prompts, integrate the Veo 3.1 video-generation model, export finished videos directly to YouTube (exports default to private), and record screens via a new Chrome extension. Vids can use prompts to keep character consistency while having avatars interact with products, props or equipment; users can also tweak appearance, apparel and backgrounds with prompts. Veo 3.1 can generate eight-second clips inside the editor; Google is offering 10 free Veo generations per month to all users and up to 1,000 Veo videos per month for Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra accounts. The update follows recent additions to Vids such as Lyria 3/Lyria 3 Pro music models and prior avatar, 2D/3D cartoon avatar and voice-language expansions. Competing vendors include Synthesia, HeyGen, D-ID and Lemon Slice.
