Blick

Blick is a swiss digital news publisher with advertising and premium subscriptions.

Analyst Perspective

Ringier AG operates Blick as a Swiss digital news publisher and mass-reach media brand. The platform publishes continuous editorial coverage across news, business, sport, lifestyle and entertainment, and monetises that audience through digital advertising inventory, native advertising, sponsored content and paid digital subscriptions. Blick also extends engagement with newsletters, video, podcasts and a casual games property inside its wider media ecosystem. Its paying customer base is split between consumers who subscribe to Blick+ for premium journalism and advertisers or agencies that buy access to Blick’s audience through display, native and branded content campaigns. Commercial sales are handled within Ringier’s advertising structure, while Blick functions as the consumer-facing publishing brand and audience asset.

Analyst Signal Briefing

Updated: 6 Aug 2026

Ringier continues evaluating SonntagsBlick’s viability, considering a transition to Saturday publication or rebranding to mitigate distribution costs. To strengthen revenue, the group has reorganised its commercial leadership, appointing former Blick sales lead Annick Cochard as Head of Sports Sales to drive strategic partnerships across the portfolio. This follows successful rapid-response World Cup marketing activations and the renewal of Ringier Advertising’s mandate for Blick and partner Blue News. These developments, supported by senior editorial rotations, align with a broader group strategy prioritising digital monetisation and content protection via the Spur coalition.

Category Differentiation

This entity is the Blick publishing brand and digital news platform operated by Ringier AG, not the whole of Ringier’s multinational portfolio. It is a publisher and media property, not a standalone adtech vendor or software company.

Blick: About

The business model is a hybrid digital publishing model. Blick creates editorial content to attract large consumer audiences, converts part of that audience into recurring digital subscribers through its Blick+ paywall, and sells the remaining attention through advertising and branded content products. Value is created by combining scale, frequency of news consumption, and premium editorial inventory that advertisers can use for both reach and native storytelling.

How Blick Works & Monetises

Business model analysis and core revenue streams

Blick monetises through a hybrid mix of ad-supported publishing and recurring subscription revenue. The core commercial mechanism is managed advertising sales, including display banners, native placements, sponsored editorial content and social amplification sold against high-reach publisher inventory. A second revenue stream comes from Blick+ digital subscriptions, which charge readers for access to exclusive and paywalled journalism.

SRG to Resume FM Broadcasting This Autumn

Switzerland’s public broadcaster SRG plans to restart analogue FM (UKW) radio transmissions in autumn 2026 after political pressure and a December parliamentary motion. FM technical tests have been running since 20 July 2026, with Swisscom Broadcast AG conducting function checks at multiple sites on SRG’s behalf. The Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) is expected to issue the required UKW concession in August 2026. SRG had switched distribution to DAB+ and shut down UKW in January, a move linked to about a 6% market-share loss in the first half of 2025. SRG says tests continue, older equipment remains in use and contractual details with Swisscom are still being clarified. Initial operating costs are estimated at about CHF 6.6 million per year, with potential expansion costs up to CHF 15 million.

Promoter Albi Matter's Festival Company Files Bankruptcy

Swiss concert promoter Albi Matter says his event company, Albi’s Country Festival AG — a company he founded specifically for a Hallenstadion country concert — filed for bankruptcy after the show. The Hallenstadion event drew about 4,500 attendees, well below expectations. Matter states his long-running business, Show & Music AG, remains healthy. He says an ex-business partner failed to provide a promised bridging loan and has not responded. Matter says the bankruptcy mainly harmed a PA company and other service providers (musicians, hotel, APG-Werbung), but that he intends to continue organising music events. The interview was published on 2026-07-27 by persönlich.com.
