German Broadcasting Fee Revenues Fall Slightly in 2025

The Beitragsservice published its 2025 annual report showing a slight decline in revenues from Germany’s mandatory broadcasting fee. Total fee receipts were €8.72 billion in 2025, €20 million less than the previous year. Berlin Court Rejects RT DE Challenge to Broadcast Ban

The Administrative Court of Berlin dismissed RT DE Productions GmbH’s lawsuit challenging a broadcast ban that was imposed in 2022. The court upheld the decision of the Medienanstalt Berlin‑Brandenburg (mabb) and the underlying ruling of the Kommission für Zulassung und Aufsicht (ZAK), concluding that the German company bore editorial responsibility and broadcast the program without the required German broadcast licence. RT DE had started distributing via satellite and internet in December 2021 and ceased operations in April 2022 after an earlier emergency request was denied. The RT DE Productions GmbH, founded in 2014 and now in liquidation, may seek leave to appeal to the Higher Administrative Court of Berlin‑Brandenburg; the judgment is not yet final.
