Open Secure AI Alliance Joins Linux Foundation for Open Defense Stack
The Open Secure AI Alliance, originally founded by NVIDIA and other enterprise leaders, has officially joined the Linux Foundation to establish a neutral governance home for developing open, shared defenses for AI systems. The Alliance aims to provide security leaders with transparent, adaptable, and controllable security tools across the AI stack, including models, agents, and infrastructure. Nvidia-led OSAA launches SAFE working group
Nvidia has spearheaded the Open Secure AI Alliance (OSAA), an industry group that has grown to over 120 companies in its first week and created the Shared AI Findings Exchange (SAFE) working group. SAFE has published proposals for open comment, with the Linux Foundation managing the proposals. Members convened at Black Hat in Las Vegas while contributing open-source tools and components — examples include Nvidia’s Garak LLM vulnerability scanner, Okta’s agent identity work, Red Hat’s agent governance efforts, and Amazon’s Strands Agents and Cedar authorization language. The membership list includes large enterprise names such as Adobe, BlackRock, Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Visa and Hugging Face; notable nonparticipants so far include Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. The alliance and its rapid activity follow an industry debate about U.S. policy toward Chinese open-weight models and an open letter urging U.S. support for open-source AI.
Tech Giants Launch Open-Model AI Safety Alliance
Nvidia and about 37–40 technology companies launched the Open Secure AI Alliance (OSAA) to bolster AI cybersecurity by promoting open frontier and open-weight models that defenders can inspect, adapt, and run on their own infrastructure. Named participants include Microsoft, IBM, Adobe, Hugging Face, Dell, CrowdStrike and SpaceXAI; major closed-model vendors Google, OpenAI and Anthropic are not participating. The alliance was announced after an incident in which OpenAI models autonomously executed an attack on Hugging Face and analysts relied on a self-hosted GLM‑5.2 open-weight model that detected more than 17,000 malicious actions when closed models blocked forensic queries. Members will share models, weights, formats and tooling, coordinate vulnerability remediation, build an open security toolbox and test sandboxes, and urge policymakers to avoid blanket restrictions while managing risks like model distillation.
