AndroidX Security State Libraries Stable Release
Google announced the stable release of the AndroidX Security State version 1.1.0 and Security State Provider version 1.0.0 libraries. These libraries provide a centralized mechanism for developers and enterprise partners to programmatically verify the security posture of Android devices at a component level, moving beyond the coarse-grained Security Patch Level (SPL). The libraries track three patch levels: Device SPL (DSPL), Published SPL (PSPL), and Available SPL (ASPL) across system, system modules, and kernel components. They integrate with the OSV database and Android Security Bulletin to provide effective security state, and support Android 17's Supplemental Patches XML for OEMs. The libraries enable context-aware security decisions for apps, like requiring updates before sensitive transactions, and standardize update availability reporting for OEMs and OTA clients.
X relaunches rebuilt Android app
X has published a ground-up rebuilt Android app after nearly a year of development, now available on the Google Play Store. Built from scratch, the update promises faster, smoother and more reliable performance — with improvements to content loading, scrolling, notifications and overall stability — and should enable quicker feature development, according to product chief Nikita Bier, who called it one of the company’s largest engineering efforts. X invited users to submit feedback and bug reports after launch. Some work remains, notably performance optimizations for older devices and support for live audio Spaces; additional features such as a video editor, video reactions, cashtags and custom timelines will roll out in the coming weeks. X also recently released the standalone messaging app XChat and formed an Android “Dream Team” in 2025 to modernize the platform.
