WhatsApp to Let Users Chat with Third-Party AI Agents
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to connect up to five external AI agents or bots to their accounts, each with its own dedicated chat. The feature, discovered in the WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.26.35.3 by WABetaInfo, is currently available to a limited number of users in select countries. Users can add an agent by generating an API key in WhatsApp settings and configuring it with the agent's hosting service. The agent can only access messages and files shared within its dedicated chat, and conversations are not end-to-end encrypted, with Meta managing the chats on behalf of the agent developers. This integration simplifies the process of using third-party AI assistants within WhatsApp, which previously risked account bans.
