NBA Selects Five AI Startups for Launchpad Incubator
The NBA has selected five startups for its Launchpad technology incubator, chosen from a pool of more than 200 applicants. The cohort includes companies building a wearable that measures mental focus, an AI scout for sponsorship deals, shoppable highlight technology, a system that creates photorealistic 3D game replays, and an AI-powered shooting coach. The startups will participate in a six-month pilot working with the league and will present their progress at the NBA Summer League. The program is part of the NBA’s broader strategy to transform into a media and technology company by embedding emerging technologies—AI, deep data and immersive media—into player performance, fan experiences and new revenue streams. Tom Ryan, the NBA’s Head of Basketball Research and Development, commented on the program’s progress.
