Funke Regionalmedien Launches 'New Media' Unit for Social and Newsletter
Funke Regionalmedien, the regional division of German media group Funke Mediengruppe, has established a new unit called 'New Media' to drive its newsletter and social media business. The unit is also tasked with developing brands and products aimed at younger audiences. Anna-Katharina Kölbl, previously Head of Business Development at Funke Regionalmedien since 2022, will lead the unit in the newly created role of Chief Growth Officer. Initial offerings under this initiative include 'Talzeit' in Wuppertal and 'Hauptsache Hamburg' on Instagram. Carsten Groß, Managing Director of Digital Publishing, stated the goal is to reach more and younger people with regional journalism and build long-term relationships to generate new revenue streams. The unit will consolidate the expansion of social and newsletter offerings and develop social-first approaches. The move is part of broader restructuring at Funke, which recently assigned responsibility for the portal derwesten.de to this division.
