Revolut valuation jumps 53% to $115B in share sale
Revolut has closed a secondary share sale valuing the fintech at $115 billion (€103 billion), a significant leap from $75 billion last year and $45 billion in 2024. Led by Glade Brook, Coatue, Durable Capital, T. Rowe Price, and Baillie Gifford, the deal allowed employees to sell shares at around $2,017 each without raising new capital. CEO Nik Storonsky emphasized employee ownership. The company serves over 80 million retail customers globally and plans to exceed 100 million. It has expanded internationally, launching local banks in Britain, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand, and obtaining licenses in France, Colombia, Argentina, and preliminary U.S. approval. In Austria, IBANs will be issued from 2027. Revolut reported 2025 revenue of €5.3 billion (up 46%) and pretax profit of €2.0 billion (up 57%). An IPO, potentially at $200 billion, is delayed until after 2028.
Iwoca CEO Discusses 15 Years in Fintech, SME Loans, Sale
In an interview, Christoph Rieche, CEO and co-founder of UK SME lender Iwoca, reflects on the company's 15-year journey, its growth, and a possible sale. Iwoca, which raised around £70m in equity and is backed by Augmentum and CommerzVentures, was reported by Sky News in June to be up for sale with a valuation over £1bn, having hired Qatalyst Partners. Rieche confirms shareholders are seeking liquidity but says it won't impact strategy. The company's loan origination rose to £1.5bn in 2025, with revenues up 56% to £366m and profits nearly doubling to £113m. Iwoca has recently expanded into credit scores, business credit cards, and an M&A platform. It also announced a partnership with Starling. Rieche also addressed a sanctioned shareholder issue that was resolved. He noted London has become less attractive for fintechs but remains Iwoca's headquarters.
AI SREs: Investigating the Hype and Reality
The article explores the emerging trend of 'AI SRE' (Site Reliability Engineering) tools, which use AI agents to assist with incident investigation and response. It highlights that increased code deployment frequency due to AI agents is driving a rise in incidents, making AI-augmented on-call tooling attractive. The piece features insights from three startups—Rootly, incident.io, and ResolveAI—and discusses various approaches, including multi-agent architectures, context layers with knowledge graphs, and the trade-offs between speed, cost, and accuracy. It also examines the debate over whether AI SREs should autonomously make code changes or merely assist human engineers. The article notes that while fully autonomous agents shown in demos are not yet reality, AI triaging of pages and silencing unimportant alerts is becoming more common, with companies like OpenAI, Stripe, and Google building their own in-house solutions. The future might see fewer but harder incidents for on-call engineers, along with risks of deskilling.
