KKR to Invest $820M in Samsung SDS; Shares Jump
KKR agreed to buy 1.22 trillion won (about $820 million) of newly issued convertible bonds from Samsung SDS, the South Korean IT solutions and logistics affiliate of Samsung Electronics. The announcement sent Samsung SDS shares up as much as 21.3% intraday, closing 17.89% higher. Under the strategic collaboration, KKR will advise Samsung SDS on mergers and acquisitions, capital allocation, AI offerings and global expansion. Samsung SDS said the proceeds will accelerate investments in AI infrastructure as it aims to expand as a full‑stack AI solutions provider. KKR said the investment will mainly come from its Asia Fund IV and the transaction is expected to close in Q2 2026.
Samsung to invest $1B in AI infrastructure firm Helix
Samsung Electronics and five affiliates will invest a combined $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure company launched by KKR and backed by Nvidia. Samsung Electronics contributes $500 million, with the rest from Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. Helix, led by former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky, focuses on hyperscale data centers, power generation, transmission, and fiber-optic networks. The investment adds to over $10 billion already committed by other investors including KKR, Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia, and Vistra. The move allows Samsung to leverage its semiconductor, cooling, data center construction, and battery capabilities to expand in the AI infrastructure market.
CPP Investments Backs CtrlS with $741M India Data Center Deal
CPP Investments (Canada Pension Plan Investment Board) has committed up to ₹70 billion (~$741 million) to Indian data center operator CtrlS to fund hyperscale data center campuses tailored for AI workloads. The deal includes a ₹40 billion (~$423 million) equity investment for an 8.2% stake in CtrlS and up to ₹30 billion (~$317 million) committed to a joint venture to build hyperscale campuses. CPP Investments will hold 48% of the joint venture and CtrlS 52%. Founded in 2007 and based in Hyderabad, CtrlS operates more than 15 data centers across India. The investment is part of a broader wave of global capital and cloud-provider spending into India’s AI and cloud infrastructure, and comes amid policy incentives and parallel commitments from other investors and technology companies expanding AI-capable capacity in the country.
