Kiteworks urges customers to shut down servers amid imminent cyber threat
Kiteworks, formerly Accellion, has issued an urgent advisory to its customers to shut down their systems due to a potential zero-day cyberattack. The company told TechCrunch it received credible threat intelligence from law enforcement about an imminent threat over the weekend. Kiteworks emphasized the advisory is precautionary, as no compromise has been confirmed. The company recommends all customers use its latest software release 9.5.1, which fixes known vulnerabilities. The exact number of affected customers is unclear, but Kiteworks serves thousands across healthcare, technology, education, automotive, and government. Security researcher Kevin Beaumont identified at least a thousand internet-facing Kiteworks systems. This is not the first such incident; the company faced a massive breach in 2021 as Accellion, when hackers exploited a vulnerability to steal data from hundreds of organizations.
