Identity & Fraud Prevention Market: Instructure Partners With Veriff to Fight Credential Fraud

Instructure, the maker of Canvas LMS, announced a partnership with identity verification provider Veriff to integrate identity verification directly into Parchment Transcript Services in response to rising credential fraud. The new capability allows institutions to require learners to verify their identity before fulfilling transcript requests, using Veriff's document and selfie checks. This addresses the problem of 'ghost student' fraud schemes, which equifax reports cost U.S. community colleges $180 million annually. The pilot program began in August 2026, with general availability planned for November 2026 in the United States. Institutions retain control over approvals, and learners can defer verification if they lack a government-issued ID. This partnership is intended to balance fraud prevention with protecting access for legitimate students.
