DeepL launches voice-to-voice translation suite
DeepL announced DeepL Voice-to-Voice, a real-time speech-to-speech translation product suite and the next-generation DeepL Translator platform for enterprises. The suite includes Voice for Meetings (integrations for Microsoft Teams and Zoom; early access program), Voice for Conversations (mobile & web, generally available), Group Conversations (QR-based multi‑participant sessions; generally available April 30), and a Voice-to-Voice API (early access). DeepL added customization for spoken terms and integrated translation glossaries (generally available May 7), expanded language support to over 40 languages (including all 24 EU languages), and made small-team self-serve purchases and trials available online. Independent blind evaluations by Slator commissioned by DeepL reportedly found 96% of linguists preferred DeepL Voice vs. native solutions from Google, Microsoft and Zoom, with quality scores of 96.4/100 (Zoom) and 96.3/100 (Teams). DeepL also described a broader platform vision to centralize translation flows, quality assessment and iterative improvements for enterprise workflows.
DeepL Voice preferred by 96% over competitors
DeepL published results from an independent benchmark, conducted by Slator, evaluating real-time AI translation and live captions across Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom for 14 language combinations. The study found DeepL Voice scored highest for translation quality and caption stability, reporting quality scores of 96.4/100 (DeepL Voice for Zoom) and 96.3/100 (DeepL Voice for Teams) versus 87–89 for competing built-in tools. DeepL Voice reduced critical or major translation errors by 76% on average, produced fully passing translated segments 79% of the time (vs. 42% for others), and improved caption stability (88.6/100 and 85.8/100). Across blind evaluations, 96% of professional linguists preferred DeepL Voice. DeepL’s CEO and Slator consultants are quoted explaining the importance of accuracy and on‑screen stability for real-world meetings.
OpenAI launches ChatGPT Translate with multi-modal translation
OpenAI introduces a new Translate feature within ChatGPT called ChatGPT Translate, enabling translation of text, images, and voice chats. The tool aims to capture meaning to deliver more precise translations and can recognize tone, idioms, and regional expressions. It supports automatic source-language detection and more than 50 target languages, including German, English, Spanish, French, Hindi, and Japanese. Under the translation field, prompts allow users to tailor output for smoother phrasing, a formal business style, child-friendly explanations, or translations suitable for academic audiences. OpenAI positions Translate for students, language learners, travelers, and professionals, noting it combines translation with ChatGPT capabilities. It may compete with Google Translate and DeepL, offering image translation (e.g., menus) and voice-chat translation within one tool. This update highlights OpenAI's ongoing push to integrate language AI across applications.
