A developer discovered that Claude Code’s local project path encoding strips every non‑Latin character and replaces it with hyphens, causing different directories with the same non‑Latin character count to collide into the same .claude/projects entry. Collisions let a user in one folder view or resume another folder’s chats and allow operations like `claude project purge` or default cleanup to delete unrelated conversations silently. The bug was reproduced across Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic paths. The author published a GitHub issue against the Claude Code repository and released an open‑source scanner, ai-config-guard, that detects non‑Latin path collisions and other risky project instructions.
