Shopify: AI Search Boosts Traffic and Sales, Not Replacing Google

Shopify said AI-driven search is acting as a complement to traditional search and has materially increased traffic and orders for merchants. On its Q2 earnings call, President Harley Finkelstein said AI-referred traffic and orders to Shopify stores tripled year-over-year, and that traditional search remains a large and growing source of buyer traffic. Shopify reported Q2 revenue up 36% year-over-year to $3.6 billion and gross operating profit up 31% to $1.71 billion, beating analyst expectations. The company noted half of AI-referred sessions land directly on product pages (2.5x traditional search) and that 75% of AI-attributed purchases occurred outside its top 100 categories. Shopify also built connectors to multiple AI tools and agents to support merchant integrations.

Bending Spoons to buy Airtable for $1.28B

Bending Spoons has agreed to acquire Airtable for roughly $1.28 billion in cash (reported enterprise value $1.285 billion), marking the buyer’s first major deal since going public. Airtable, founded in 2013 and having raised over $1.4 billion, reported about $480 million in ARR as of June 2026 with growth above 20%, implying an EV/ARR multiple near 2.7×. Bending Spoons said Airtable holds roughly $2.25 billion in net cash and cash equivalents. An SEC filing shows Airtable reorganized before the sale, transferring assets and liabilities tied to its agent/“Hyperagent” business to a separate entity (Hyperagent Inc.), so the acquisition covers the database, customers, workflows and recurring revenue while the agent business remains separate. Airtable previously reached post‑money valuations above $11 billion in 2021.

AWS partners with Superblocks to embed vibe coding

Superblocks, a vibe-coding startup, announced a multiyear joint marketing agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to allow its tool to be embedded inside customers' private AWS clouds. The integration ensures apps built with Superblocks run inside an enterprise's AWS account (spinning up Amazon Aurora databases) and can integrate with Amazon Bedrock, keeping data inside corporate cloud environments. AWS will also assist in selling Superblocks via its partner channels. Superblocks has about 50 employees and had raised $60 million at Series A (announced May 2025), backed by Spark Capital, Kleiner Perkins, Meritech Capital and Greenoaks. The deal is an example of hyperscalers pushing enterprises to run AI/agentic tooling and orchestration inside their clouds to avoid data leakage and vendor lock-in.
