Apple Pay Launched in Germany

Apple Pay has been launched in Germany, enabling payments at physical checkouts in addition to online purchases. The rollout shows 15 banks currently support the service. Apple Pay works with iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac, with authentication via Face ID or a double-click on the side button. In Germany, supported card issuers include American Express, Deutsche Bank, HVB, comdirect, N26, o2 Banking, Hanseatic Bank, boon, bunq, fidor Ban, Edenred, and VIMPay. Merchants accepting Apple Pay include Adidas, C&A, Tank & Rast, mytaxi, Foodora, Aldi, Netto, Real, McDonald’s, Burger King, Starbucks, and Tchibo. Apple states device-unique account numbers are used, transactions generate a dynamic security code, and no card data is stored on devices or servers. Apple notes Apple Pay is active in 26 markets with over 5,200 bank partners.

ProSiebenSat.1 is expanding its data offering by linking with retailer data through a new cooperation with Retail Media Group (RMG), a Ceconomy subsidiary. The deal follows a previous arrangement in early 2017 when the group secured data from Zalando Media Solutions. The RMG partnership provides ProSiebenSat.1 access to pseudonymized customer data from its retail network, including MediaMarkt, Saturn, Real, and Thalia. For RMG, the collaboration involves modeling audience segments that ProSiebenSat.1 can use in conjunction with its own data to power advertising campaigns. The SevenOne Media arm of ProSiebenSat.1 will benefit from a larger targeting pool, notably in consumer behavior. When paired with the group's adtech tools, these targeted campaigns can be executed programmatically.

An analysis of Facebook video advertising in Germany for July 2017 shows growing use by small and medium-sized enterprises and a strong reach for Netflix, with notable activity from Universal Studios. Using gemiusAdRealTM, the study found that Facebook video ads reached 17.9 million adult desktop users in Germany (34.3% reach). SMEs accounted for about 11% of video ad impressions, reaching 9.6 million desktop users and generating 51.9 million impressions. Netflix ran spots for Ozark and 13 Reasons Why, reaching 6 million users and 26.2 million impressions, and reportedly placed roughly 80% of its online video campaigns on Facebook in the preceding three months. Universal Studios ran campaigns for Churchill and Atomic Blonde, reaching 2.4 million users and about 7 million impressions. The viewability of Facebook video ads stood at 68.2% in July, slightly above the German online video average (67.6%) but below Facebook display ads (85%).
