GRAI raises $9M to make music social with AI

GRAI, an AI-focused music lab founded by former Vochi creators, raised $9 million in a seed round co-led by Khosla Ventures and Inovo VC. The startup builds consumer-facing social music apps — including an iOS remixing app called Music with friends and an Android AI music playground — that let users transform and share existing tracks rather than generate music from scratch. GRAI says it has developed its own taste and participation graph, a "derivatives pipeline," and real-time audio systems designed to preserve the identity of original tracks while enabling transformations. The company aims to work with artists and labels on opt-in/opt-out models and targets Gen Z and Gen Alpha as users. Other investors include Tensor Ventures, Tiny.VC, Flyer One Ventures, a16z Scout Fund and several angel backers.
