Akismet

Akismet is a cloud spam filtering for comments, forms and messages.

Analyst Perspective

Automattic Inc. operates Akismet as a hosted spam-filtering and content moderation service for websites, apps and digital communities. Akismet analyses user-submitted text such as comments, form entries and messages through a cloud API and uses machine learning to block spam in real time. The product is sold primarily to website owners, developers, publishers, online communities and enterprise teams that need automated protection for high-volume user-generated content. The business model is subscription SaaS with API-based usage pricing and enterprise custom contracts. Akismet creates value by reducing manual moderation workload, preventing abuse and improving the quality of user interactions across digital properties. It sits within Automattic’s wider web software portfolio and benefits from product trust, broad deployment and a large underlying spam intelligence dataset built over many years of operation.

How Akismet Works & Monetises

Business model analysis and core revenue streams

Akismet monetises through a tiered SaaS subscription model tied to usage volume, API calls and site requirements. Personal users can access a pay-what-you-want plan, commercial customers buy fixed monthly plans, and larger organisations purchase higher-volume business or enterprise packages with customised pricing, support and deployment terms. The underlying commercial model combines software subscription revenue with usage-scaled pricing and bespoke enterprise contracts.

WP Multitool Adds Plugin Performance Score

WP Multitool 1.1.19 introduces a new Plugin Performance Score module that adds a Performance column to the WordPress Plugins admin page. For each installed plugin the column shows a deterministic score (0–100), PHP memory usage, and number of database queries based on benchmark data from makewpfast.com. Benchmarks are run in isolated Docker containers on clean WordPress installs (one plugin active at a time). The plugin ships with a static ~220 KB bundled benchmark data file (cached by PHP opcache) and covers about 5,000 plugins; if a plugin is not in the dataset a dash is shown. The feature is enabled by default and the WP Multitool package includes 14 modules.

Add a Contact Form to a Static Site with FormsList

A DEV Community tutorial (published 2026-06-01) by Vaibhav Jain explains how to add a contact form to a static JAMstack site without building a backend by using FormsList, a form backend service. The article shows a minimal five-line HTML form that posts to a FormsList endpoint, describes optional spam protection options (honeypot field and Akismet filtering), and notes that FormsList offers a free tier and scales with projects. The post appears alongside promotional sponsor content for MongoDB Atlas and platform mentions (Algolia, Google AI).
